The ASK Dress Boutique Story

Karen Drew and Sarah DiGiovine are proud lifelong residents of the Joliet/Plainfield/Shorewood area.  They have been neighbors in Shorewood and friends for over 10 years.

After Karen’s oldest daughter started high school and attending the many dances which are held; she realized the options of shops with high quality dresses for teens and young women is very limited in the area.  This was especially true for the two “big” high school dances, Homecoming and Prom.  Owning her own business is something Karen had always talked about doing, a boutique seemed like a perfect fit.  After her mother died of cancer in early 2016, Karen felt it was time to follow through with this dream.

ASK Dress Boutique Owners Sarah and KarenKaren and Sarah began talking about the idea of a dress boutique.  Both were very enthusiastic and passionate about fulfilling this obvious need in the area.  The thought of making so many girls wishes of finding that perfect dress come truly energized them in their efforts.  They started working towards making the boutique a reality.  The two friends quickly began researching demographics, filing paperwork, looking for retail space, contacting top dress manufacturers,  and the list goes on and on.  The two friends worked fantastic together.  They realized this partnership was going to work well.  Soon, ASK Dress Boutique was becoming a reality.

Sarah is a graduate of  Plainfield Central High School and Prairie State College with a degree in Dental Hygiene.  She worked in various local offices for 16 years.  During that time, Sarah had many patients whom grew fond of her.  She is well liked and knowledgeable in the dental field.  All those years of working with people perfected her communication and people skills.  Sarah connects with people,  is able to put them at ease, and makes them feel comfortable in any setting.  She will gladly welcome you into ASK Dress Boutique and help you make selections that best fit you, your style, and your needs.

Karen is a graduate of Joliet Central High school and has a degree in Human and Family Resources from Northern Illinois University.  She worked in the social services field with disabled adults through Cornerstone Services the majority of 22 years.  Working with people has always been something Karen enjoyed.  Her time at Cornerstone taught her to look past people’s differences, and in fact embrace the diversity, see people’s abilities, and always try to help a person fulfill their wants and needs.  Karen is a person who enjoys talking with people and helping them.  Although she will greatly miss her clients and Cornerstone, she looks forward to greeting you when you come to ASK, having a conversation, and helping you find that perfect dress you want!

As for how the name ASK Dress Boutique came about, it is an acronym for the names of Karen and Sarah’s family members.  Allison, Andy, & Aubrey, Stacy, Steve, & Sarah, & Karen.  The only person missing was Paul.  But if you look closely at the logo, you can find the “hidden  P” in the right corner of the dress.  Sarah and Karen also felt it was clever that a girl hopes to get “asked” to the dance.  See, it all works out perfectly.
